Castlemilk Youth Complex

Castlemilk Youth Complex (CYC) provides a safe and positive environment to give young people, aged 12- 25, the chance to try new activities that might not be available to them within schools or elsewhere or become more involved with subjects they enjoy. It provides a range of different groups and courses at all levels such as Drama, Music, Photography, DJ training & Graffiti art and a weekly Friday nightclub event. CYC is in a league of its own, as it is run by young people for young people all in the age range of 12- 25.

The project
The project was developed for the young people coming to the centre to encourage them to access a number of resources available at CYC. The artists approached the workshops in a way that would allow the groups to use established sound mixing, video/animation production and visual arts techniques in an open and experimental way.

The project was developed through workshops where participants made models out of cardboard and later plasticine; were given small tape recorders to take home and record sounds; did various sound recordings including environmental, scratching and mixing; were introduced to stop-frame animation techniques and this footage was used to introduce the idea of video editing; and given the opportunity to develop their ideas into short animations.
