Greater Govan Asylum Seekers Support Group
Greater Govan Asylum Seekers Support Group has operated since June 2001. The two drop-in centres, which it oversees, are an opportunity for people to meet with friends, take part in activities and receive advice and support from other organisations.
Summary of the project
The group worked on recording recipes and making images for a cookbook – now showing in the GoMA exhibition. The group began by writing down recipes from their home countries and using various printing methods to illustrate them. This work developed
into further prints, terracotta sculptures, cake decorating, chocolate mould making and photography. In the last session the mouth watering recipes were created and consumed (see attached photographs).
There was an amazing amount of artwork produced and a further session in GoMA was used to try and chose pieces to go in the final cookbook. It was a difficult choice but eventually a range of work and photographs were chosen to go in the book. There will be a limited number of copies of the cookbook on sale in the GoMA shop from August 2003.
