The Centre of New Enlightenment

TCoNE Technical AreaIn the 18th century some people in Scotland looked around them and thought, ‘Does the world have to be this way?’ They challenged accepted ideas and asked themselves, ‘How can we change our lives? How can we change our world?’ This was the beginning of the Scottish Enlightenment.

These people did change their world, and they helped forge the world we live in today.

Now it is our turn to shape the future. The Centre of New Enlightenment (TCoNE) at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is the place to start. TCoNE is one of the UK’s most exciting new experiences for young people aged 10 to 14 years and their families, and it is where we can discover how to become the heroes of tomorrow.

The Centre of New Enlightenment is not an exhibition, it is an experience, an adventure and an education. Created in collaboration with Sir Tom Hunter’s Hunter Foundation, this world-class attraction is the latest addition to the innovative Campbell Hunter Education Wing at Kelvingrove.

A cornerstone of the Curriculum for Excellence is to enable young people to become confident individuals, with self-respect, a sense of well-being, secure values and ambition.

The Centre of New Enlightenment has been designed to meet these learning objectives – the high-tech tour explores the themes of kindness, trust, determination and endurance in Kelvingrove’s displays.
