Opening times and travel information

Baby change
Baby change facilities are available in all toilets on all floors.

Breastfeeding
A private room is available for breastfeeding on request. Please ask at reception. Find out more about breastfeeding in Scotland.

Baby feeding
Hot water is available from the restaurant for heating milk and food for babies and young children.

Booking
There is no need to book in advance, unless you would like a guided tour.

British Sign Language
Some members of staff have been trained in basic British Sign Language – please make enquiries at one of the reception desks. All audiovisual presentations within the galleries will have subtitles where required.

Café/restaurant
The Kelvingrove café restaurant is located on the lower ground floor to the left side of the building when entering by the lower ground floor entrance. There is also a café in the centre hall.

All meals are available in children’s portions, and a range of organic baby food is available. Alternatively, our chef will be happy to prepare something for your baby from our range of fresh produce upon request. Baby bottle warming facilities are available in the restaurant. Please ask staff to help you.

Cloakroom
A cloakroom is located on the lower ground floor entrance. Left luggage can be left in the cloakroom for a small charge. This facility is dependent on availability. Phone the museum before you visit: 0141 276 9599, text phone 0141 276 9500 or 0141 276 9511.

Parking
Limited parking is available at Kelvingrove – there are 147 pay and display spaces. Ten disabled parking spaces are available in the Kelvingrove car park. There is a drop off point for coaches and buses. Extensive pay and display parking is available in the surrounding streets.

Disabled parking
Disabled parking is available within the Kelvingrove car park. There are ten spaces reserved for Blue Badge holders.

Accessible toilets
Accessible toilets are available on each floor. Those on the lower two levels also contain adult changing tables, and adjustable sinks. Toilets are locked so as to reserve them for the use of disabled visitors – ask staff to provide keys for you.

Entrances
There are three entrances to Kelvingrove: two at the car park entrance, and one at the Argyle Street entrance. A lift is located at this entrance.

First aid
There is a first aid room on the lower ground floor, at the entrance. Please ask staff for assistance

Guide and assistance dogs
Guide and Assistance dogs are welcome in Kelvingrove, and dog bowls and water is available. Please contact a member of staff.

Guided tours
Guided tours of Kelvingrove are available. You can drop in for one of our regular tours, or make a group booking. To make enquiries about booking a tour, please telephone 0141 287 2699.

Induction loops
There are induction loops at the reception desks on both levels, the Study CentreConference Room and in the Education Suite.

Left luggage
Left luggage facilities are available at the cloakroom on the lower ground floor, for a charge. This is dependent on availability – please phone the museum before your visit on 0141 276 9599, text phone 0141 276 9500 or 0141 276 9511.

Lifts
There are two lifts which take visitors from the lower ground floor entrance to all other floors. A lift at the Argyle Street entrance provides access to the museum.

Mobile phones
Use of mobile phones is not prohibited in the museum, but please have consideration for other visitors.

Photography/drawing/video recording
A form to request permission to draw, photograph and make video recordings in Glasgow Museums stores and galleries for personal use is available from all our museums and must be completed before undertaking any of the above.

Photography without the use of tripods is usually permitted. But due to the sensitive nature of many of our exhibits and the possible damaging effects of flash photography, permission must be sought before hand.

Prams and buggies
A buggy park is located by the Mini Museum in the centre hall.

Reception
There is a reception desk by the entrance at the car park side of the building, under the statue of St Mungo, and there is also a reception desk in the centre hall on the ground floor.

Research facilities
Research facilities are available in the Study Centre, where there is access to computers and to the Public Access System, as well as access to reference books. The Public Access System provides you with further information on objects in Kelvingrove.

There is also a member of staff on duty from Monday to Friday to answer questions and help with object identification and research. To make enquiries about research facilities, please phone Kelvingrove on 0141 276 9599, text phone 0141 276 9500 or 0141 276 9511.

Shops
There are three shops in Kelvingrove. Two are located at either end of the centre hall, and one is on the lower ground floor, next to the car park entrance and the Kelvingrove café restaurant. A wide range of souvenirs, publications and gifts will be available.

Smoking
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the building.

Taxis
The nearest taxi rank is at the side of the Kelvin Hall which is on Argyle Street.

Telephones
There is a public telephone on the lower ground floor, beside the Kelvingrove café restaurant.

Toilets
There are male and female toilets on each floor level. The toilets on the lower ground floor can be accessed from the lower ground entrance on the right side of the building.

Accessible toilets are available on each floor. Baby changing facilities are available in all toilets within Kelvingrove. Adult changing facilities are found in the fully accessible toilets on lower and upper ground floors. Please ask staff for keys.

Touching objects
There are opportunities to touch or handle objects within the galleries – these will be clearly signed. The three Discovery Centres will allow visitors to investigate and explore objects further, with more handling opportunities. Visitors will not be asked to wear gloves in the galleries when touching or handling objects, but may be asked to do so if attending a facilitated session in the Study Centre or the Discovery Centres.

Wheelchair access
Kelvingrove is fully accessible to wheelchair users. All floors are accessible by lift. The galleries are designed to allow for wheelchair access between displays and cases. All displays/cases and interactives are at an accessible height for wheelchair users.
