Wild About Glasgow

Wild About Glasgow - How can I contribute?

Be a wildlife spotter
We need to know all about the wildlife in Glasgow, and you can help us to record it. If you see anything of interest, please let us know about it.

What to do if you spot something
Send in all the information on our special recording forms.

Species list
We would like to receive records of any wildlife you see in Glasgow or the surrounding area. However, as part of the Wild About Glasgow display in Kelvingrove Museum, we would especially like records of specific species.

View the species list
You can view the list of species by following the link under Related Information on the right hand side of this page.

Download the species list
You can download the species list in PDF format by following the link under Related Downloads on the right hand side of this page. By post
Biological Records, Glasgow Museums Resource Centre, 200 Woodhead Road, South Nitshill Industrial Estate, Glasgow G53 7NN.

You can also email the information to us at biological.records@csglasgow.org

Please tell us the following information:

- what animal or plant you saw
- where you saw it (please be as precise as possible - a grid reference or postcode would be very helpful)
- when you saw it
- any other information – numbers, observations etc.

Send us any photographs or videos you may have taken of the wildlife you spotted. You can also send us photographs of yourself too, if you want to. You can either post it to us, or email it as an attachment. Attachments should be no larger than 15MB, and should be emailed to: biological.records@csglasgow.org

What happens next?
After checking the information you send us, we will then enter it into a computerised database, and will only use the information for nature conservation, research, education and public information purposes. The information remains your property at all times, and we will not disclose your contact details to anyone.

If you are happy for your details and all associated wildlife records to be stored on a computerised database, and for it to be used in the Wild About Glasgow display within Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, your records will then be added to the maps in the interactive in the Scotland's Wildlife gallery.

Some individual sightings will be featured in the interactive, so your name and the information on wildlife you have supplied us may appear in the interactive in the gallery at a future date.

Other areas
We would like to know about the wildlife outside Glasgow as well. We welcome records from East Dunbartonshire, West Dunbartonshire, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Inverclyde and Argyll & Bute.

However, we regret that we can not include them in the current displays in Kelvingrove, as these only relate to the City of Glasgow.
